CHARACTERISTICS OF ASPERGER’S SYNDROME AND OTHER FORMS OF AUTISM • Brain’s ability to use information different from neuro-typically developing children. • Creates a different perspective on the world. • Difficulty processing in-coming information. • Need for alternative teaching strategies.

WHAT IS ASSISTIVE TECHNOLOGY Assistive technology is any electronic/computer technology that is used to compensate for specific learning disabilities.
THREE TYPES OF TECHNOLOGY • “LOW” Technology • “MID” Technology • “HIGH” Technology
“LOW” TECHNOLOGY • Technology that is visually supportive and low cost. They do not involve any type of electronics or batteries. • Examples: dry erase boards, black boards. clipboards, photo albums.
“MID” TECHNOLOGY • Simple battery operated devices that are not technologically advanced. • Tape recorder, overhead projector, calculators, simple output devices.
“HIGH” TECHNOLOGY • Technology that is not only complex but also costly. • Video Cameras, computers, complex voice output devices.
