April 7, 2014 • Welcome Back! • We have 24 school days before the AP Exam on May 9. Subtract two of those for scheduling and assume we’ll lose one more to some random weirdness, and we’re left with right at three weeks of prep time. • We have a TON to do in that time. Expect for each class period to be densely packed, and expect to have homework on a regular basis. • This week: Synthesis (You’ll get your synthesis essays back tomorrow and write a new one on Friday.) • Next Week: Satire (Ends with a Rhetorical Analysis Essay)
April 7, 2014 • By Thursday, I need you to read the following pieces. • “Small Change” by Malcolm Gladwell • “Is Google Making us Stupid?” by Nicholas Carr • “The Internet Deserves Its Own Holiday” by Marvin Ammori • “Goodbyes and Grief in Real Time” by Brian Stelter • As you read, select (by underlining or highlighting) quotes that are vital to the author’s argument(s). • When finished, whittle the number of important quotations to 3 each for “Small Change” and “Is Google Making us Stupid?” and 2 each for the 2 shorter pieces.
