WHO SHOULD DO THIS COURSE? This course is for: • those already with basic IT experience • who wish to build skills and confidence in using computers at work or at home
WHAT DO YOU NEED TO KNOW TO START THE COURSE? • Need to be able to understand basics of computing, • How to use a mouse effectively • Understand how to use menus and on screen selection tools • Knowledge all of the main keys on the keyboard • Minimum Entry Level 3 reading ability
HOW IS THE COURSE STRUCTURED? • The course is unit based. Each unit covers a different aspect of Workplace Productivity software. • To gain a full ITQ certificate you must achieve 13 credits: • You must study the Mandatory Unit (6 credits) • Complete 2 - 4 additional units of your choice. • Units may be studied in the order of your choice
UNIT 1 • E-Document Production. (3credits) • Learn how to carry out the most common tasks using a word processor to create professional and accurate typed documents • Learn how to keep work organised using files, folders and disks.
Optional Units 2 & 3 Creating Spreadsheets & Graphs. (3 credits) • Learn how to plan, monitor and manipulate figures using automated calculation features • Create correct and professional looking charts and graphs. Database Manipulation. (3 credits) • Learn how to create a simple database systems to be able to store, retrieve and present records
Optional Units 3 to 6 E-Publication Creation. (3 credits) • Learn how to create posters, cards and adverts to a professional and well presented standard. E-Presentation Creation. (3 credits) • Learn how to create neat and well laid out slideshows for meetings and presentations using pictures and words and shapes
Optional Units 7 & 8 Web Page Creation. (3 credits) • Learn the fundamentals of how websites are created and how to create simple websites using text, images and links. Online Communication. (5 credits) • Learn how to use Outlook email client and use the internet to research useful information
MANDATORY UNIT Improving productivity using IT (3 credits) A written assessment that demonstrates: • your ability to plan, evaluate and improve your work involving Information Technology • Make use of tools and systems in order to improve the productivity and efficiency of work activities.
WHAT ENVIRONMENT WILL I BE LEARNING IN? • Learning is individualised • Each student will complete a learning plan to outline learning aims • Learn at your own speed • You can choose the units you wish to study
HOW WILL I LEARN? • Following guides and practical exercises • Tutor demonstrations and explanations • Studying information in provided books and resources • Preparing for assessment with mock examinations and revision
HOW LONG IS THE COURSE? • No fixed time to complete course or units • Varies according to student prior learning, attendance and motivation
Guided Learning Hours The table below indicates the range of guided learning hours (GLH) applicable to the ITQ 2009 qualifications. The yellow stripes indicate the courses currently offered by BRC.
DO I HAVE TO DO EXAMS? • To complete a unit; students must pass a live assignment. • a practical test or exam that is taken in the classroom in Business like environment • Taken at a time when student and tutor are confident of success • Live assignments can be taken across several sessions and students may use their ownnotes.
What if I make mistakes? • Each unit live assignment is marked and a pass or fail grade is awarded • Most students do pass on first attempts • Any unit live assignments can be retaken using a different paper
LIVE ASSIGNMENT MARKING • Live assignments are marked for errors • 4 minor accuracy errors are allowed • No major errors are permitted • A major error is a mistake or omission that would make the item not fit for purpose in a real work environment
HOW DO I KNOW IF I PASSED? • Assignments are marked internally – you will normally be notified of a result within 10 days • Assignments are also marked externally by the OCR examination board • Assignments are batch submitted to OCR at regular intervals • We receive certificates from OCR within a month of submission
ATTENDANCE AND BOOKING • Students are allowed to book up to 5 computer sessions per week • Sessions are 2 hours each • Starting at 10am, 12pm, 2pm • Further sessions are available on Monday evenings only at 4pm and 6pm • Recommended minimum attendance is 2 sessions per week
Booking and Cancellation • Sessions are booked using the computer booking sheets • If you are unable to attend telephone us in advance so your seat can be booked by another student. • You do not need to give a reason why you can’t attend • Telephone: BRC 01902 353705 PAL 353477 .
LATENESS • Please let us know if you think you will be more than 15 minutes late for a booked session • Any seats that are unclaimed 15 mins after a session starts are made available to • Students who wish to extend their session or • To clients who want to make use of the IT facilities for jobsearch activity.
