Beginning the Day Ready to Learn! 1) Arrive with backpack open at gate. 2) Administrative Team Reviews Backpack and confirms that each student has their agenda and binder. 3) Students with messy binders will report to the binder triage area (No papers in pockets) 4) No binder = loaner and infraction 5) Students are also reviewed for dress code
The 4 “R’s” of Dress Code Respect - wear appropriate clothing Responsibility - wear clothing that allows you and others to concentrate on learning Relationships - wear clothing that is a positive reflection of yourself Results - all students can focus on academics
Not Allowed - All • Clothing or personal belongings with pictures and/or messages that infer or promote: • Alcohol • Tobacco • Drugs • Violence • racism • Sex death
Guidelines for Girls • Shirts/Blouses/Tops: NO low-cut tops, halter tops, spaghetti straps, bare midriffs, or inappropriate designs and/or messages on shirts, regardless of cover-up garments. • Showing undergarments or cleavage is unacceptable. Bra straps must always be covered. • Tops are considered too low-cut if they are more than “4 fingers” below the collar bone. • Shorts/Skirts/Dresses: • Shorts must have a minimum 3 inch inseam and be in good repair. No fraying. • Skirts and dresses must be mid-thigh in length. • Tank Tops: Are allowed. Tank top straps must be 2 inches wide . • Shoes: No sandals, thongs, flip-flops, open-toed, backless shoes.
Not Allowed for Girls Wearing legging, tights, or hosiery underneath will NOT make this clothing appropriate.
Guidelines for Boys • Shirts: NO inappropriate designs and/or messages on shirts, regardless of cover-up garments. • Pants/Shorts: No sagging, extremely baggy pants, or extremely low-rise pants. • Sweaters/Jackets: No oversized clothing allowed. • Hoods may NOT be worn in class. • Tank Tops: Not allowed. All shirts must have a sleeve. • Shoes: No sandals, thongs, flip-flops, backless shoes.
Not Allowed for Boys • Sagging pants below the hips or that expose undergarments, boxers, or shorts
Acceptable Pants for Boys • Pants/shorts that hang on the hips and do not sag.
Acceptable Shorts - Girls & Boys • Appropriate length
Dress for Success “Professionals in Training”
Hats • No hats unless you have a doctor’s note that states you need it for medical reasons. • Hats/Caps can be worn as sun-protective gear outside of class. Hats must be: • Plain solid black, white or yellow or Serrano logo only • Worn with the bill facing forward/straight • Removed upon entering all buildings • Knit Caps/Beanies may be worn outdoors during colder months, but must be removed in all buildings
No Gum Policy • Gum chewing is not permitted anywhere on the school grounds
Rules for Bikes, Scooters, & Skateboards 1) May not be used on school property 2) School is not responsible for loss or damage of these items 3) Helmet is required at all times 4) Privilege can be revoked at any time
Acceptable Use Cell phones Cell phones must be off during the school day. From the first bell the last bell they are not to be used. Absolutely No texting or calling during class School Officials have the right to review the contents at any time if you are involved in any type of discipline, or if another student reports that you have been using the cell phone inappropriately.
Consequences First Offense: Phone confiscated until end of day; Parents contacted and a warning is issued and noted Second Offense: Phone confiscated until parents arrive to meet with an administrator; violation noted Third Offense: Phone confiscated, returned to parents; you will not be allowed to be in possession of a cell phone while on the school grounds for the remainder of the school year. We are young scholars who are here to learn
Behavior Expectations • Learning Environment • Greet your teachers • Good morning, Mrs. Yeh • Good afternoon Mr. Holton • Use your Level 2 Voice • Use appropriate language at all times. • Follow Serrano rules. • No gum chewing! No Exceptions! • Permanent Markers of any kind are not allowed
Attendance Attendance • Maintain 97% • (180 days of school you can miss up to 5 days) • Doctor appointments – afterschool • Dentist Appointments – afterschool • Optometrist (eye) Appointments – afterschool • Four minute passing periods- arriving late to class will not be tolerated.
Tardies/Absences • If you are late to 1st period, you must report to the attendance office to get a tardy slip. • If you are absent please clear your absence with Ms. Patty in the attendance office.
Truancies • 30 min. late to school is considered truant • 3 or more in one year is classification for habitual truancy • Citations can be issued for Truancy
Lunch Time Etiquette • Your time to enjoy, so respect it. • Line up in the appropriate line (outside or inside) • 30 minutes – use it wisely (restroom) • Place your trash in the trash can. • Enjoy this time with your friends. • Raise your hand to be dismissed. • Listen to all adults on campus.
Lunch Break Rules • No running to the MPR (hallways breezeway) • No Student Zone: The grass field, beyond the benches, is off limits to students. No student should be found beyond this point.

California Education Code The California law states that all students are responsible to the school for their behavior while they are: • on their way to school in the morning and while they are • their way home from school in the afternoon. If you violate any school rule during this time, you will receive school consequences accordingly.
Fighting/Bullying Zero tolerance-Minimum three day suspension • If you fight and you can receive a citation from the Montclair Police Department • Arrest
Conflict/ Resolution • If you need assistance please tell an adult (teacher or support team). • Don’t let it escalate • Don’t hold grudges • Don’t let it brew… • Be patient.. • If you need help, tell an adult.
