  2. CIVITAS Forum  19-21 October 2009  Krakow (Poland)  Alessandro Tritto Agenda Definition of INTEROPERABILITY applied to an Electronic Ticketing System Following the OSI ISO7498 Interoperability of the system, Interoperability of the smart card Process of certification and manufacturing quality control

  3. CIVITAS Forum  19-21 October 2009  Krakow (Poland)  Alessandro Tritto Definition of INTEROPERABILITY applied to an Electronic Ticketing System In order to guarantee that any device can communicate all interfaces and protocols have to be well defined. Any device must be known in terms of functionality and connections. More the specification documents are clear, more is the probability that the system is independent from the hardware vendor. Database An Electronic Ticketing System is a complex system composed by different devices that communicates each others. A system can interoperate if all devices can communicate and work with a defined coordination.

  5. CIVITAS Forum  19-21 October 2009  Krakow (Poland)  Alessandro Tritto Definition of INTEROPERABILITY applied to an Electronic Ticketing System Contribute to have a real competition between System Vendors in terms of INNOVATION QUALITY PRICE. Database What are the major results that come from INTEROPERABILITY? Help the bus operator to manage the system! The END USER feels that the system offers a: • BETTER SERVICE • Is EASY TO USE • There is a cooperation between BUS OPERATORs. The most important effect that come from INTEROPERABILITY is that the END USER feels more comfortable to use Public Transport Services.

  9. CIVITAS Forum  19-21 October 2009  Krakow (Poland)  Alessandro Tritto Interoperability of the System, interoperability of the smart card! In order to have the interoperability of the system, We move our first step defining the interoperability of the Smart Card. Smart card is what end user have in his hands. It is a KEY to access to the services of TRASPORTATION and other services. More services can be accessed, more the USER will increment the frequency of usage of the card.

  10. CIVITAS Forum  19-21 October 2009  Krakow (Poland)  Alessandro Tritto Interoperability of the System, interoperability of the smart card! Regione Piemonte asked to Click Utility Srl to define a clear specification of the smart card to use in the BIP system. Case study:Regione Piemonte BIP card BIP means: Bigliettazione Integrata Piemonte. The card shall be used by 4 Million people in late 2012 for: • accessing to the services of 52 different bus operators; • Regional BIKE SHARING; • Regional Car Sharing; • Card for Students and access students facilities; • Road pricing; • Libraries and museum; • Access to the football stadium; • Ecc. .

  12. CIVITAS Forum  19-21 October 2009  Krakow (Poland)  Alessandro Tritto Process of certification and manufacturing quality The work done focus on two activities: • Define a clear specification of the card; • Define a process of testing and certification. The card has been defined in terms of: • Protocols-> ISO 14443 typeB • Application ->Calypso revision 3.1 • File system structure • Data model With the help of RINA (certification authority) and Univeristy of PISA (independent 3th part) we have defined a procedure of testing and certification for: • Protocols ISO 14443 typeB -> ISO 10373 part.6 • Application Calypso revision 3.1 • File system structure • Data model ->Test application tool developed with help of Spirtech Fra

  13. CIVITAS Forum  19-21 October 2009  Krakow (Poland)  Alessandro Tritto Process of certification and manufacturing quality Regione Piemonte does not care any more about the card vendor. If the vendor has been certified, his card will be compliant. We got five main goals: Card Vendors knows what to do in order to be qualified for tenders. System Integrators knows how to use the card. Interpretation of the data is shared with all integrators. Smart card vendors compete on PRICE and QUALITY not any more for market positioning. Smart card vendors compete on PRICE and QUALITY not any more for market positioning. Certification process is done by an independent 3th part laboratory under the control and supervision of a Sincert's certification body.
