FY 14 Department Goals • Preventfire deaths and property loss • • Reduce fire deaths to zero • • Confine 80% of structure fires to room of origin • • Arrest at least 33% of arson cases • • Increase number of non-technical inspections performed by 5% • • Install 1,095 smoke alarms annually • Preparefor emergencies • • Staff more than 95% of sworn positions • • Conduct post-incident reviews for at least 90% of multiple alarm or serious injury incidents • • Develop and implement Phase I of the Community Wildfire Protection Plan by September ‘14 • • Increase community effectiveness during emergencies • Respondefficiently and effectively to emergencies • • Guarantee response time from receipt of call to arrival to 8 minutes or less • • Increase percentage of cardiac arrest cases arriving at the hospital with a pulse • • Reach at least 90% customer satisfaction rate Austin Fire Department

Operations • Primary provider of fire protection for Austin citizens • Largest Division of the Fire Department • Operations firefighters are on duty at fire stations 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year • Firefighters work at the fire stations 24 hours “on” & 48 hours “off” • Services provided by Operations • Fire Response: Structure, high-rise, wildfire, vehicle, and aircraft • First Responders: Medical • Rescues: Vehicle, water, confined space, technical, building collapse, and wilderness • Hazardous Materials: Transportation, industrial, environmental, and terrorism Austin Fire Department

Emergency Response Structure Fire: A fire involving the structural components of various residential buildings ranging from single-family detached homes and townhouses to apartments, or various commercial buildings ranging from offices to shopping malls. Austin Fire Department
Operations – FACTS • Responds to more than 84,000 incidents per year. • Of those, 70% are medical first response • Keeps fire to the room of origin 86% of the time! • Station 1, located downtown, is the busiest station with over 7,800 runs per year • Engine 18, located at Berkman Drive & US 290 East, is the busiest unit with over 4,800 runs per year • 100% of Operations firefighters are wild land certified to the basic national standard level.
