Summary • Out of the dust is about a girl named Billy Joe that lives a sorrowful life. She lived way back in the 1930’s and had many painful days in her life. Her father was a farmer and dust always layered his hard work, and her and her mother got burned by a bucket of kerosene. Billy Joe only got burned on her hands, just the spot where she plays her beloved piano. Her pregnant mother got burned all over, and died having her baby son.
