  2. Ensemble consisting of voices only • Choral ensembles vary in size • Perform in churches, theatres, musicals, etc. • Examples: “O Fortuna” by Carl Orff “Messiah" by George Frideric Handel “MissaSolemnis” by Ludwig von Beethoven Choral Ensemble

  3. Orchestral ensembles consist of string instruments (violins, violas), brass, and percussion • Orchestral ensembles vary from 50 or fewer parts (chamber), to 100+ (symphony) • Perform in the opera, concert halls, etc. • Examples: “Houses of Healing” by Howard Shore “Symphony no.5 in C minor” by Bach “Ode To Joy” by Bach Orchestral Ensemble

  4. Wind ensembles consist of strictly wind instruments (flutes, clarinets, etc.) • Wind ensembles vary in size (40-100) • Perform in concert halls, operas, etc. • Examples: “Rose” by James Horner (Titanic) “Crystals” by Thomas Duffy “Godzilla Eats Las Vegas!” by Eric Whitacre Wind Ensemble

  5. Jazz ensembles consist of a rhythm section (guitar, piano, bass, drums) and a horn section (trumpet, trombone, saxophone) • Usually consist of 4-5 parts per instrument, and 3-4 rhythm instruments. • Perform in concert halls, theatres, etc. • Examples: “Boogie Woogie On St. Louis Blues” by Earl Hines “Caravan” by Duke Ellington “Take the A Train” by Duke Ellington Jazz Ensemble
