It started in the early 1700s in Holland when an unknown Dutchman decided to go “ice skating” in the summer. 3. He nailed wooden spools to strips of wood and attached them to his shoes. 4. In 1760, a London inventor, Joseph Merlin, attended a party wearing one of his new inventions, metal-wheeled boots. 5. Later, modern skating developed in America. 6.
