Subject : Tuesday Safety Lab #1 DATE: 3 September 2013 Activity Students will rotate through stations around the room and become familiar with science lab safety equipment. They will fill in a student sheet with information about each piece of safety equipment as they travel. Six stations will deal with a piece of safety equipment (eye wash/safety shower video, apron and running water, goggles/safety rules reading, fire blanket, fire extinguisher . SE Students will be able to identify correct lab safety practices and identify lab equipment by name. WARM-UP “Do Now”- Students read SpongeBob safety story and answer question. Homework: students turn in safety cartoon today Essential Question Why is safety important in science? Assessment Open whole group discussion. Individual responses checked on science journals. Subject : Wednesday Investigations Lab, day 1 DATE: 4 Sept 2013 Activity Students will work in partner pairs to investigate which color of M&Ms dissolves the fastest. Students should clean up their materials, and make sure their data table is complete. SE 6.2A plan and implement comparative and descriptive investigations by making observations, asking well-defined questions, and used appropriate equipment and technology. WARM-UP “Do Now”- Students read M & M lab and complete hypothesis statement. Students also read through procedures for lab today. Homework: Essential Question What are the parts of an investigation? How do you write a testable hypothesis? Assessment Individual work checked on lab sheets. LANGUAGE OBJ
Subject : Thursday Investigations Lab, day 2 DATE: 5 Sept 2013 Activity Students will continue to work in partner pairs to investigate which color of M&Ms dissolves the fastest. Students should clean up their materials, and make sure their data table is complete. Lab worksheets are due today with graph colored. Time permitting: Lab Equipment Bingo, students learn names of different types of lab equipment by playing bingo game. WARM-UP “Do Now”- Students read M & M Investigation: Background reading and answer question assigned. Homework: Binder due today, rules and procedures, safety quiz today.
