  2. Child abuse is the physical, sexual or emotional mistreatment or neglect of a child or children. • Child abuse is the bad treatment of a child under the age of 18 by a parent, caretaker, someone living in their home or someone who works with or around children.

  3. In general, there are 4 typical kinds of child abuse • Neglect • Physical • Sexual • Emotional

  4. Neglect • Neglectisa pattern of failure to provide for the child's physical needs, such as food, clothing, shelter, and medical care; child's emotional needs, such as affection, attention, and supervision. • There are 4 types of child neglect • Educational • Physical • Medical • Emotional

  5. Educational neglect involves the failure of a parent or caregiver to enroll a child of mandatory school. • Physical neglect involves the parent or caregiver not providing the child with basic necessities. • Medical neglect is the failure to provide appropriate health care for a child. • Emotional neglect includes ignoring the child, rejecting, verbally assaulting, terrorizing, and corrupting or exploiting.

  6. Physical abuse • Child physical abuse is defined as non-accidental trauma or physical injury caused by punching, beating, kicking, biting, burning or otherwise harming a child, physical abuse is the most visible form of child maltreatment.

  7. Sexual abuse • Sexual abuse is considered fondling, the showing of private parts by an adult, sexual intercourse, oral and anal sex, forcing a child to watch while others have sexual intercourse, incest, and pornography.

  8. Sexual offenses • Touching sexual offenses consist in fondling, making a child touch an adult’s sexual organs, penetrating a child’s vagina or anus. • Non-touching sexual offenses consist in, engaging in indecent exposure or exhibitionism exposing children to pornographic material, and masturbating in front of a child. • Sexual exploitation consist in engaging a child or soliciting a child for the purposes of prostitution and using a child to film, photograph or model pornography.

  9. Emotional maltreatment • Emotional child abuse is a pattern of behavior that attacks a child's emotional development and sense of well-being. This includes excessive, aggressive or unreasonable demands that place expectations on a child beyond his or her capacity.

  10. Children are our future and we all have the power to stop child abuse!
