When working with others our consultation told us Learned a lot about: • not being top-down, • not to have a “strategy”, • not giving too much information • linking to others’ agendas: unemployment, debt, fuel poverty We will make Suffolk the healthiest county in Britain by 2028 Healthy Ambitions Suffolk - trying real partnership working
Launch Healthy Ambitions Suffolk launched, November 2008 Everyone working in the same direction: • Major “bottom-up” consultation before launch • Main funding was from NHS Suffolk with some “in kind” support by partners We will make Suffolk the healthiest county in Britain by 2028 Healthy Ambitions Suffolk - trying real partnership working

Current public health progress & challenges Health inequalities: 5.5 year gap for men and 4.3 year gap for women (life expectancy). Since 2001 the gap in life expectancy has decreased by 0.6 years for men and increased by 0.1 years for women. Currently 22 in 100 children are overweight or obese in Suffolk at age 5 and 30 in 100 children at age 10. Currently 26 in 100 men and 21 in 100 women exercise to the recommended level in Suffolk. In 2010 we achieved the highest MMR coverage since 1998. 9 out of 10 children are now vaccinated. Teenage pregnancy rates have fallen by 28% since 1998 with a current rate of 28.5 pregnancies per 1000 girls aged 15 to 17 years. Every day in 2010, 15 mothers initiated breastfeeding, which means that 71% of mothers started breastfeeding in 2010. Every day in 2010, 11 people were supported to quit smoking; more than 80% of people currently do not smoke. Healthy Ambitions Suffolk - trying real partnership working
