Prepositions • Prepositions are used, alongwith estar to describe location of people, places, and things. • Examples in Spanish are: a (at; to)- rememberthat “al” isusedwhen “a” comes beforethemasculinedef. article “el” (ex: Voy alsumpermercado) en(at; in; on) al lado de (beside) atrás de (behind) delante de (in front of) encima de (on top of) arriba de (above) debajo de (under) abajo (below) Ejemplo: El estudiante de ciencias sociales está en el laboratorio. Su libro está encima de la mesa.

  5. PresentProgressive • PresentProgressive- anactionthatisongoing. In English, presentprogressive tense isalsoknow as the “-ing” tense (ex: I am running). • El presente progresivo en español- hay dos formas se “ing” en español: -ando (para verbos que terminan en –ar) y –iendo (para verbos que terminan en –er o –ir) • Ejemplo: hablar: Yo estoy hablando con María por teléfono. aprender: Juan está aprendiendo el español. servir: El restaurante está sirviendo arroz con pollo frito. Stem-changers (thosethatchangeinto e-i and o-ue in thepresentonly) In thepresentprogressive, there are single-letterstemchanges in someverbs: Examples: Dormir, tosleep (o-u): ¿Tú estás durmiendo? Decir, tosay (e-i): Luis y María están diciendo que viajan a México mañana.
