  1. 100th - JUBILEE SEMINAR OF EUROPEAN ASSOCIATION OF AGRICULTURAL ECONOMISTS THEME OF THE SEMINAR: DEVELOPMENT OF AGRICULTURE AND RURAL AREAS IN CENTRAL AND EASTERN EUROPE NOVI SAD, 21st -23rd June 2007

GENERAL BACKGROUND: • Europe is in a stepwise process of integration. • There are several groups of heterogeneous countries: • EEZ (6) – 1958 • EU (15) – 1995 • EU (25) – 2004 • EU (?) – 2015 • OBJECTIVES OF THE SEMINAR: • Recognition of advantages, disadvantages and problems that exist within rural and agricultural development of European countries at different stages of European integration as well as in the countries of Balkans claiming to become EU members.

  3. EXPECTATIONS: • Multi-disciplinary approach to emerging policies and strategies for improvement of rural and agricultural development within the countries that are outside the process of European integration, but also in the countries that have recently joined the European Union; • Results of fundamental, methodological, practical, original and applied researches to contribute to the rural development. • KEY ISSUES OF THE SEMINAR: • Multifunctional approach to rural development and an assessment of the role of agriculture within economic development, as a platform for interaction between agricultural economists and other experts on the issue of rural development in accession and non-accession countries.

  4. TOPICS (SECTIONS) OF THE SEMINAR: • the role of rural areas and the agricultural sector in socio-economic growth in accession and non-accession countries; • the role of rural areas as buffer for poverty and in how far is rural development of crucial importance for poverty reduction in these areas; • in how far does the different situation and development in rural areas in the various countries depend on the size of agricultural holdings; • integration of agriculture and food industry with other rural economic activities (tourism, retail, etc…); • education and training; • environmental problems and the question how rural development could contribute to solve them; • access to EU funding in solving rural problems.

  5. DEADLINES: • Start distribution of call for papers: 1st May 2006 • Deadline for paper registration and abstract (2 pages): 1st January 2007 • Notification of paper acceptance: 28th February 2007 • Submission deadline for full paper: 1st May 2007 • The papers will be published in thematic proceedings before the Seminar. • The official language of the Seminar will be English. • PARTICIPATION FEE: • The participation fee will be € 250. – for EAAE members. • For the young EAAE members (up to 30) the participation fee will be € 150.- • Participants of the Seminar that are non-members of EAAE will pay € 40.- extra and will become EAAE members. • The deadline for participation fee payment: 1st May 2007.
