  3. Questions to Discuss If we discount this “hidden” water and focus on the water you use for drinking, washing, etc…how much water do you think the average American consumes each day? 103 gallons *

  4. Questions to Discuss If you had to carry that water, how much do you think it would weigh? Almost 860 pounds

  5. Questions to Discuss In countries where women and children have to carry their water, the average family consumes 5 gallons of water. About 40 pounds About the weight of one fully loaded suitcase.

  6. Carry our water? The fact is that almost 1 billion people do not have access to safe drinking water. They have to go get their water. The water they go to get is often a long distance away It’s not always there It’s dirty and causes disease

  7. Your school day If you were to walk to school, how far would that be? The average woman in Africa and Asia walk over 3.5 miles to get drinking water. That’s one way. Carrying 40 pounds of water.

  8. Your school day How much time from your school day do you lose walking outside between buildings? In developing countries, women AND CHILDREN often bear the primary responsibility for water collection.* Girls under the age of 15 are twice as likely as boys their age to be the water fetcher.* 443 million school days are lost each year due to water-related diseases.*
