Basic Working Principle • Includes a DC Electric Motor which drives shaft • Several types of motors are used in industry • Motor Drives a threaded shaft through an in line ball nut • Some type of feedback (typically from a resistive strip) is output to update the shaft position to the motor • The controller uses the feedback to drive the shaft to the desired position ECE5320 Mechatronics. Conclusion • DC Linear actuators are great for automation • Typically they are robust, and made to interface easily with PLC’s and other commonly used controllers • Stroke, Force, Accuracy and Precision are important parameters in purchasing • They are need real fast, but supply a fair amount of torque for their size ECE5320 Mechatronics.
