Games time Service Outline • Ensure business as usual service delivery • Meet the bid commitments • Provide appropriate contingency for health resilience NHS Responsibilities Games time During Games Time the NHS will need to be ready to meet the needs of • Local population • Games Family, vast majority met by LOCOG • Visitors and spectators, business as usual rules on eligibility to NHS healthcare. Minimising the Impact on the NHS Health promotion campaigns and signposting to appropriate services to mitigate against an increase in activity.
Overall Structure Looking beyond the Games Minimise risks associated with communicable diseases, injuries & outbreaks of illness Co-ordinating provision of excellent health services for the Games Enhance healthcare preparedness
Key Planning Assumptions • There may be an increase in demand from spectators and visitors i.e. live sites, cultural events and the ‘festival atmosphere’. • The Olympic Route Network will have effects on London in areas not adjacent to venues • There will be disruption and heightened security on public transport, the road network, traffic and parking • No planned operations/ services will be cancelled because of the Games • Staff wishing to volunteer for the Games will use their paid annual leave • A significant majority of athlete and Games Family medical care will be carried out at LOCOG run Polyclinics and will not require NHS involvement
