Confrontation and Conflict To come face to face with, especially with defiance or hostility. • Confrontation: • Conflict: To be in or come into opposition.
Types of Conflict: Teacher/Parent • Parent not agreeing with the teacher’s methods. • Lack of parent’s presence in child’s education Solution: Be willing to accommodate and honor their views.
Student/Student • Bullying • Ignorance • Arguing • Anger • Gossip • Violence Solution: Set up rules at the beginning of the year and make sure they are followed through.
Student/Teacher • Won’t listen • Won’t do work • Backbiting • Frustration Solution: have a back up plan, be patient and have a one on one conversation with the student.
Ways to help prevent conflict • Have discussions and lessons on conflict. • Help students find easy solutions to problems that may arise. • Create a class contract for the students to sign. • Review quarterly.
How to deal with conflict • Have a one on one discussion with the student. • Help the student to address their feelings. • Discuss the situation and possible solutions. • Decide on the best solution and follow through with the plan.
