  1. Medaka ProjectBobbalita By Heather Grove and Kyrie Kerr

  2. Day 1 This is a picture of the medaka egg on day 1 when we first measured. The length is 2576.13326um.

  3. Day 2 • We had no luck in finding a heartbeat again today. So, at this point we are not sure how many more days the egg will be to hatching or finding a heartbeat. • There has been little to no change in the color shape or size of the egg. • We have not noticed much on the egg or emrbyo.

  4. Day 3 • We have found a heartbeat today and counted 85 beats per minute. • This means that we are at stage 24.

  5. Day 4 & 5 • These days are the weekend and we are unable to access the medaka at this time.

  6. Day 6 • We have counted 115 heartbeats per minute • We have also jumped from stage 24 to stage 26 over the weekend, so that is very good.

  7. Day 7 • There is no pigment color in the yolk sac. • We have established we have a tail. • Our medaka fish covers about ¾ of the egg.

  8. Day 8 • We are still in stage 26 with 115 beats per minute • We now have little black dots that cover the optic cup and the tail is curving around the egg

  9. Day 9 Today there was not much change from yesterday. Below is a picture of the medaka on day 9.

  10. Day 11 Hatching • Today is a Saturday but our egg has hatched and below is a movie of the egg after it hatched.

Functions of the labels • Filament = these are fibers that help build clusters • Chorion = the outermost membrane inside the egg • Cytoplasm = keeps everything in place for organs to form • Yolk Sac = the structure in which the egg eats from • Oil Globule = inside the yolk sac and helps with feeding the medaka egg • Heart = circulates blood to keep the animal alive

Functions continued • Fins = are used to help move the fish around after and while hatching • Optic cup/eye = used to see so that the fish doesn’t get into much trouble with hitting things in its way • Brain = used to control intelligence of egg • Mouth/Jaws = used to eat so that the fish can grow and thrive • Somites = pattern the skeletal muscles and axial skeleton

  13. Requirements for survival • Fresh spring water • Turtle food for after hatching • Safe and clean environment
