  2. Learning path: online rooms Overview WELCOME TO COLLABORATE! So far on this Learning Path, you have created a new online room, entered the online room, and loaded this presentation into the online room. Now that we’re in our online room, we will review the basic functionalities of Collaborate that are available to participants and moderators of a session. You can navigate through the slides using the left and right arrow buttons above.

  3. Learning Path: Online Rooms Page Explorer In addition to using the left and right arrows, you can use the Page Explorer to scan through the slides and select a specific topic. To access the Page Explorer, select the drop-down menu icon outside the top-right corner of this presentation. From the drop-down menu, select Show Page Explorer. Click the right arrow to get started!

  4. Audio Setup Wizard Upon entering a Collaborate Online Room, it is imperative that you set up your microphone and audio using the Audio Setup Wizard. The wizard will prompt you to select the audio input (microphone) and audio output (speakers) you will be using in your session and test the volume of each. Click the small microphone icon on the Audio & Video panel on the top-left of the screen to start the Audio Setup Wizard. Tip: To avoid audio playback, use a headset or headphones instead of your device’s speakers for audio output.

  5. Learning path: online rooms Audio & Video Click to turn on/off your microphone. Adjust the volume of your microphone using Adjust the volume of your speakers using Preview your video feed before transmitting it by clicking Click to turn on/off your video feed. Collaborate can support up to a maximum of 6 video feeds simultaneously. Tip: If you are experiencing delays or have a slower internet connection, try turning off your video feed. This function uses a lot of bandwidth.

  6. Learning path: online rooms Participants Panel This is where you will see all of the people in the Collaborate Online Room, as well as the role they play in the room (Participant vs Moderator). Test out the following commands by clicking the icons on the panel: Show emotion to the other participants, including understanding, confusion, approval, disapproval, faster, and slower. Show other participants you have stepped away from the session. Raise your hand to get the attention of a moderator, or a moderator may request you raise your hand in different situations (to ask/answer a question, etc.) Respond to a poll question asked by a moderator (see Polling under the Online Rooms tab on the Teaching With Technology Portal).

  7. Permissions As a moderator, you have the ability to grant and revoke access to certain features of a Collaborate Online Room to participants. Audio Permission: ability to use microphone during a session Video Permission: ability to transmit video feed during a session Chat Permission: ability to message the main room and other participants Whiteboard Permission: ability to edit the Whiteboard Application Sharing Permission: ability to share an application on their device Web Tour Permission: ability to lead a web tour

  8. Learning path: online rooms Permissions You can alter the permissions of participants on the Participants Panel. Try altering the permissions of all participants in the room by clicking on the various permission icons next to Main Room. Try altering the permissions of a single participant by hovering your mouse over a specific name on the Participants Panel (in this case, your own name), and clicking on the various permission icons which appear next to their name. In this example, video, whiteboard, application sharing, and web tour permissions are turned off for all participants, but the moderator has granted web tour permission to just the Demo Student.

  9. Learning path: online rooms Chat • Your different chats are visible as tabs at the bottom of the Chat Panel. • You can send a message to the room which can be seen by all participants and moderators using the Room tab. • You can send a message to an individual which can only be seen by that person AND the moderators by clicking right-clicking the person’s name on the Participant Panel and selecting Send a Private Chat. • As a moderator, you can send a message to all other moderators using the Moderators tab. Note: Even when Chat Permission is turned off for participants, they can still message the moderators by entering a message like usual.
