Scholars wanted to bring order and peace to China by uniting them under a philosophy. Legalism, Confucianism and Daoism were three ways of thinking that the Chinese developed to bring peace to their civilization.
Philosophy: Love and pursuit of wisdom by intellectual means and moral self-discipline.
Legalism: Is harsh punishment needed to make people afraid to do wrong?
Legalism: People who agree with legalism believe that a strong government is needed to unite the people of that particular civilization.

A Legalistic Ruler: Shi Huangdi Shi Huangdi united China through a legalistic form of government. Under legalistic rule, he ended internal battles between the warring states. Disagreed with Confucianism, had Confucius killed and ordered the burning of books that contained ideas that he disliked. Believed in a strong central government.

Daoism Following the way: Each individual must find an individual moral path to follow. No Rules for conduct. It is up to individuals to find their way to follow life. Ying and Yang
The Yin (Black) stands for all that is cold, dark and mysterious. The Yang (White) represents all that is warm, bright and light. Yin and Yang
Yin and Yang: The Yin and the Yang compliment each other. Understanding the Yin and the Yang allows someone to understand how they fit into the world.
