I woke up with a broad grin across my face as it was the start of the March Holidays. I skipped to the kitchen to help my mother get ready for our breakfast. My sister was still in bed and I thought she must be lazing in bed, happy as a lark. I went into her room to call her out for breakfast but I was startled to see her lying on her bed with her hand on her head and her eyes were red and puffy. Misery was written all over her face. I raced into the kitchen to inform my mother about it. Sure enough, after checking her temperature my mother sprang off to get ready to bring her to the doctor. 1st picture
We headed to the LRT station to take the train. We alighted at ‘Jelapang’ station and walked briskly to the clinic in Greenridge Shopping Centre. We took a queue number and waited outside the clinic. Thankfully, there were not many people and soon it had reached the queue number just before ours. We waited hopefully for the first ten minutes. We fidgeted a little for the next ten minutes. We heaved with agitation for yet another ten minutes, “What’s taking the patient such a long time?” We waited woefully for fifteen more minutes before we finally got to see the doctor. 2nd picture
The doctor examined my sister and found that she had a high fever coupled with a bad sore throat and cough. He gave my sister a Vitamin C tablet to chew on and advised her not to take fried food , chocolates and cold drinks. My mother thanked the doctor and we proceeded outside to get the prescribed medicine for my sister. I gasped in unbelief that the medicine and consultation fee cost $112. We left the clinic and headed back home. 3rd picture
My sister took her medication for the next few days and thankfully she recovered. She was as playful and as energetic as before. However, I felt my head spinning and eyes swelling. My body was swallowed up with fever and my throat was having needles. Oh no! I had caught on with my sister’s infection! 4th picture
