YASP 2011 for PS Marine Pace. BE/OP Shutdown Lecture 2011.
Outline Scope of the talk = TT2 and PS RING • Operational status end 2010 • Perspectives 2011 • New corrections • New functionalities • Some worthwhile / advanced features
Outline Scope of the talk = TT2 and PS RING • Operational status end 2010 • Perspectives 2011 • New corrections • New functionalities • Worthwhile / advanced features
Operational Status – End of Run 2010 • TT2 • TT2 Steering with SEM-fils / SEM-grids - ok (no ABS backup) • TT2 Bump creation - ok (Simone only, end 2010) • DHZ 117,147,167, 327, 337 • DVT 123,173, 353
Operational Status – End of Run 2010 -2 • PS RING • Low Energy Closed Orbit (50DHZ, 20DVT) - ok – • One single theo optics could be enough according to Marc’s tests. TBC • High Energy Closed Orbit ejection flattop + bump (DHZ15&60 GFAS) - ok • Injection p+ Bump Closure - validated but usage remains expert • Injection coherent oscillations (p+ /ions), incl. double batch injection - principle validated but missing optics • Few time left for testing as Micado algorithm available late 2010. • Constraint highlighted: correction converges only if actual tune is smaller than theoretical tune • Additional theoretical optics are required (only 1 now) • Injection coherent oscillations for ions – tested ok but doubt on optics • Beam tune Qh 6.21, Qv 6.33 # theoretical tune Qh 6.4330, Qv 6.4518 • Theo optics to be reviewed before Ion Run in 2011
YASP suitability to replace ABS • OP decision taken on 15th Dec 2010 • Based on daily experience & intensive tests performed by Marc end 2010 • Extract of report by Rende: • “We agreed that we will no longer need the old CODD and ABS in 2011. ” • “YASP in the PS has proven to work well and can be used operationally.” • “A few actions are nevertheless required to make all the corrections fully available for all beams (inj P+ , inj Ions,...)”
Outlook 2011 - New Corrections - TT2 • Steering with TT2/TT10 pickups 151,251,348,356 - implemented • Controls through XenericSampler interface • Useful for steering downstream SEMs (257/8,267/8,277/8) • Additional correctors : DHZ-247,327,337, 377, DVT-353 • Correction of individual trajectory for the 5 turn extracted beam • Use of pickups 151,251,348,356 instead of SPS monitors on first injected turns • Benefit: correct trajectories prior to SPS injection • Requires a dedicated functional extension in YASP • Under discussion Simone + Jorg
Outlook 2011 – New corrections - PS • PS P+ injection correction – undergoing • Reminder • Correction converges only if actual tune is smaller than theoretical tune. • The closer theo. tune and actual tune are, the more efficient the correction is. • OP decision: reduce the variety of tunes used operationally to 3 • YASP: define corresponding new optics in LSA DB (+ a bare machine optics Qh 6.25 Qv 6.29 compliant with all beams) 2010 Proposed 2011 Marc’s Courtesy
New Functionalities • Simulated Trim - implemented - demo in next slide • Display of electrical values before driving HW • GUI enhancements - under discussion with Jorg • Monitors’ names on H scale of orbit plot • Standard + expert views for menus ? … • Automation of Injection p+ bump closure - under discussion with Jorg • BSW43 + 44 to correct residual oscillations of bump • Procedure is expert right now • Pre-settings before YASP: postpone the start of Radial loop & disable longitudinal blow-up • YASP specific procedure: 1- measure when bump is highest & store aqn, 2- measure when bump is down 3-correct the difference • Please discuss your requests with Marc & Rende, who compile the list of features to discuss with Jorg
Outline • Operational status end 2010 • Perspectives 2011 • New corrections • New functionalities • Some worthwhile / advanced features
STEERING Options • 2 options: General(all -1 cases) or Injection(turn2-turn1) • Choice of correction algorithm • SVD • Affects all correctors • Efficient correction with very small change of settings • Useful when the corrector strength is limited • Proven very efficient for LE CO corrections (cf Marc’s analysis) • MICADO • The # of correctors is adjustable • Drawback: if many correctors used, deflection may be excessive on some • Well suited for injection correction where we want to use only 1 corrector • On line change of optics • Calculate correction with another optics (+ trim HW, if wished) • Reset the theoretical tune • Display Twiss parameters demo
TRIM options • Send absolute or modified correction (%, scaled) • Short cut to send last calculated trim without confirmation • Undo / Redo button : cancel / restore last trim • Revert all trims = back to initial settings • List of elements to trim • NEWView the proposed CCV before sending to HW (simulated trim) • Can be useful for PI.KFA45 to check if proposed CCV exceeds 320 KV • History of trims • Allow to view / undo or resend to HW any past trim # last trim – expert setting demo
Bump Creation • Extensively used at LEIR, validated in TT2 in 2010 • Can be done offline (without acquisition) - is based on theoretical optics • Bump Toolkit • 3-corrector bumps : bump excursion [mm] can be set • 4-corrector bumps : bump excursion [mm] + angle [urad] can be set • Automatic or manual selection of bumpers • Cautious: • Due to the local optics, ‘good’ bumps cannot be build everywhere (missing correctors, strange phase advance…) => always check the bump shape before trimming HW demo
Other Worthwhile Features • Response matrix computation from current optics • See effect of one corrector on monitors in DV • Data catalogs (settings + acquisitions) • Load as reference in display, toggle as golden orbit,… • Simulated acquisitions • ….
Status of BE/BI outstanding issues • Work undergoing by BE/BI but will not be fixed at start-up 2011 • Bunch ID must be set to 2 in YASP GUI to observe 1st bunch on h=16 injected beams • Reason: the injection trigger PIX.INJ-TMS has a resolution of h=8, so its smallest increment jumps two RF buckets at a time. The current setting is in fact just one bucket too early • PU 35,37,40 acquisitions are wrong of 1st turn of 2nd batch • These PU acquire empty buckets on the preceding turn • Problem: PI2X.INJ-TMS is used to position the start of the revolution period at 2nd injection • Temp fix in YASP in 2010 : PU 35,37,40 are set disabled .
