Introduction According to Standing Bear, “Man's heart away from nature becomes hard.” I got interested in this career field because I have always liked the outdoors and, when I was younger, I would go camping a lot. This got me interested in being a forester and having a career that deals with nature. In order to learn more about this career, I will be researching nature of work, working conditions, training, qualifications, advancement, job outlook, earnings and a backup career.

  3. Nature of Work • Manage overall land quality of forests, parks, rangelands, and other natural resources • Use knowledge of the forest to plan how and where the timber can best be harvested in order to make the most profit without harming the ecology of the forest or its wildlife • Watching for fires or enforcing hunting and fishing regulations • Educating people about forests and wildlife • Conserving habitat for various endangered species of plants or animals

  4. Working Conditions Physical- The job deals with walking and physical labor Outdoor- Working outdoors with nature giving tours and checking on things in the park Hours- From about a little before dawn until just after dark

  5. Training, Qualifications, Advancement • Bachelor’s Degree • Take courses in math, biology, and agriculture • After experience, some can become district or regional supervisors • In private industries, they can get manager positions and leave the field.

  6. Job Outlook 2012-2022 • Slightly declining • 3% (slower than average) • Yellowstone National Park is an ideal place for me to work

  7. Earnings • About $59,000 per year (slightly higher than average) Goals: • Buy a house • Have a family • Retire relatively early

  8. Backup Career Historian Responsibility: Research historical events using various resources Degree Required: Master’s Degree Job Outlook: 6% (slower than average) Earnings: $52,480

  9. Conclusion I am definitely still interested in this career. This has always been something that I would like to do. I look forward to working in a national park the most. One thing I do not enjoy about this career field is enforcing regulations. I am not an assertive person and I would not like this very much. I learned that this would be a suitable career for me and I would be happy with it.
