Effect on Society • HIV and AIDS epidemic well over half a million people have died of AIDS in America the equivalent of the entire population of Las Vegas. • 1.2 million people living with HIV in the United States of America - fifth of these are unaware of their infection.
Commonly effects… • Most commonly is a serious problem among Black Americans and, more recently, among the Hispanic/Latino population. • men who have sex with men represent about 2% of the total population but account for 57% of the people newly infected • increased about 17%in the 37 states
HIV testing and counseling are essential in expanding access to HIV prevention and treatment and ultimately achieving universal access. • HIV testing and counseling services has already increased steadily • the widespread increase in HIV testing and counseling availability helps the cause HIV prevention and treatment.
