Life Leadership • District 6360 has been sending high school student’s to the Life Leadership Camp since the 1970’s.
Life Leadership • About the camp • A weekend seminar • 60 students attend each year • Focuses on developing leadership skills • Team building exercises • Ropes Course • Problem Solving • Personality Style Assessment • Challenges
RYLA • 2004 – Life Leadership changes name • Rotary Youth Leadership Award • RYLA • RYLA Camps have been held all over southwestern Michigan • YMCA Camp Algonquin • MSU • Battle Creek Outdoor Education Center (Most Recent) • Etc.

Rotary Advanced Leadership • 2003-2004 – Program Begins to Change • Governor Ed Foster felt the program should be more than just the basic RYLA Camp. • Students were selected from the RYLA basic camp to attend a new program. • ROTARY ADVANCED LEADERSHIP TRAINING

Rotary Advanced Leadership PROGRAM FOCUS: • Speaking and Listening skills • Conflict resolution • Problem solving • Ethics in the business world • Four way test
College Mentoring Program • Students were evaluated at the Advanced Seminar for a new program • THE COLLEGE MENTORING PROGRAM • Objective and subjective evaluations used. • The highest ranking were selected for the college mentoring program
College Mentoring Program • Six to eight students are selected each year for the College mentoring program • The total number of the students in the college mentoring program currently is 22. • The College Mentoring program is a four year program. ( Five if the student was selected when they were a junior in high school.)
College Mentoring Program The students are required to sign a contact stating that they will: • Attend a yearly seminar • Assist in the RYLA basic camp • Join or help start a Rotaract chapter • Report to their sponsoring Club every year

College Mentoring Program Presenters from the world of work and many Rotarians present on different subjects 25 presenters over the past 5 years – 92% volunteered their time!!
College Mentoring Program • A Rotarian on the CM staff is assigned to each selection class • That Rotarian finds a mentor for the student • Generally the mentor is a Rotarian who has the same vocational classification the student is seeking

College Mentoring Program • Rotary provides direction, mentoring and support while in college. • Helps arranges summer internships. • Will assist in placement when the student graduates. • Continues to build leadership skills. • Dining Etiquette • Interviewing • Resume Building • Public Speaking • Problem Solving
