Purpose • The Teacher Excellence Initiative was designed with one primary objective: Improve student learning by improving teacher effectiveness • The Teacher Mentoring Program component of TEI is designed to support teacher excellence by providing opportunities for the continued improvement of new and novice teachers by linking him/her with a veteran teacher and/or Learning Community to facilitate growth towards the highest levels of professional practice during his/her tenure with Dallas ISD.

Teacher Mentoring Components and Activities • Maintain Learning Community Mentor E-Log. • Meet with Learning Community on a monthly basis. • Facilitate opportunities for observations as requested. • Meet with Learning Community monthly. • Complete the Novice and New Teacher First 6-Weeks Survey. • Complete the Novice and New Teacher Mid-Year Feedback form.

Mentoring Matching- • Mentors will be assigned to novice teachers and Learning Communities by Principals or Assistant Principals • Match Adjustments- • Adjustments, if necessary, will be determined by the Principal or Assistant Principal. *Principals, Assistant Principals, and mentors are the primary resource to assist new and novice teachers. Additional school-based support will be provided by lead teachers, department chairpersons, and instructional coaches, and media specialists.

  14. Continuous Improvement- • On-going participant feedback • Mid-year and annual program assessment Ongoing feedback will be secured via email at newteachers@dallasisd.org
