Take the 200 Book Challenge! Roslyn Library For families with children who have not yet started kindergarten, even newborns. Pick up a reading log at the Abington Library or Roslyn Library and record the number of books you have read o your chi. Should you finish 100 books, come to the Roslyn Branch and receive a small prize, After finishing 200 books you and your child will get a congratulatory certificate and have your pictures taken for the local newspaper.
This summer Roslyn children of all ages are encouraged to read, or be read to, for 20 minutes per day and record their progress in a reading log. Participants will be eligible to win prizes when they achieve certain reading goals. Registration will begin Friday, June 13. Every child who registers will receive a place on the recognition wall at the Roslyn Branch Library. Reading prizes will be awarded through Monday, Sept. 8 • Information: 215-886-9818

Learn Basic Chinese at Abington Free Library Learn the basics of the Mandarin Chinese language and experience some of China’s rich culture. The program runs Monday nights, June 2-23 from 6:30-7:30. Christina Li, an Abington Senior High School student, will teach the program and share her personal experience with China’s culture and language. Traffic Safe-T ProgramBegins June 1st - ends June 30th • This program is a community-wide initiative involving the Township Board of Commissioners, the Township Administration and participating citizen and neighborhood groups. The program has two major components – Driver Education and Increased Traffic Enforcement. • Residents can participate by placing signs notifying motorists to slow down, on their lawn between June 1 and June 30. Signs may be obtained by contacting your commissioner or the Abington Township Police Dept. at 267-536-1078.

Ordinance 2069 Tethering of Dogs It shall be unlawful for any person to tether, fasten, chain, tie, restrain, or allow a dog in such person’s care or located on such person’s property to be fastened, chained, tied or restrained by means of a rope, chain, strap or other physical restraint in a matter that: Deprives the dog from access to necessary sustenance or clean water; or Deprives the dog from access to sanitary shelter which will protect the animal form inclement weather in such manner as will allow the dog to remain dry and retain its proper bodily temperature; or

Prevents the dog from having the ability to rest in an area that is reasonable in size, based on the size of the animal and the area that is otherwise available for the dog’s movement; or 4. Prevents the dog from being able to move around an area that is reasonable in size, based on the size of the animal and the area that is otherwise available for the dog’s movement; or 5. Uses an anchor, latch or similar tethering device which enables the tether to become entangled around any object so as to limit the dog’s freedom from within the tethered area or causes the dog, or any of its appendages, to become entangled by the tether; or

Route 63 (Welsh Rd) to Close Aqua Pennsylvania will close Route 63 between Huntingdon Rd and Paper Mill Rd in Abington Township on weekdays from 9am to 3pm starting Tuesday, April 15 for water main replacement. The weekday closure will be in effect through mid-November. Traffic will be detoured over Edgehill Rd, Terwood Rd, and Welsh Rd. Local access will be maintained up to the construction zone.
