  2. How they get food • Fungi are heterotrophs • They get their food from dead and decaying organisms in the soil.

  3. Cells • Fungi are eukaryotes. • Some are multi-cellular, others are unicellular

  4. Types of Fungi • Fungi are divided into 4 groups. Threadlike, Sac, Club and Imperfect.

  5. Threadlike Fungi • 600 species of mold • many common bread molds such as Rhizopus. • Produce spores in their thread like hyphae.

  6. Sac Fungi • Contains 30,000 diverse species. • It includes yeast, morels, truffles. • Produce spores and structures that looks like sacks.

  7. Club Fungi • 25,000 species of mushrooms bracket fungi, plant parasites and puffballs.

  8. Imperfect Fungi • 25,000 species which include Penicillium, an important antibiotic. • They do not reproduce sexually.

  9. Interesting Facts • Fungi can be used for baking. • Fungi can used as a medicine. • Some trees cannot grow without fungi.
