Bring NASA Science Into Your Classroom! John Ensworth, Institute for Global Environmental Strategies Denise Smith, Space Telescope Science Institute
Who We Are • Aeronautics • Exploration Systems • Space Operations • Science Exploring the Moon, Mars, & Beyond…
Science Mission Directorate From our home planet to the most distant reaches of the universe…
Our Commitment to Education We want to • Communicate our missions and discoveries • Involve you in the journey • Inspire the next generation of explorers… as NASA can This involves scientists and educators working together!
Engage & Educate Your Students Classroom resources • Reinforce fundamental science concepts • Support national education standards Professional development • Workshops, online courses, summer programs • Research opportunities
Why NASA Studies Earth Science • Global population exceeds 6 billion; we added 3.5 billion -- more than doubling the population -- in the last 50 years Over the same period, world economic output grew seven fold, and grain yields nearly tripled Still, over 1.2 billion still live in severe poverty, and 1.1 billion do not have access to clean drinking water • Can the Earth sustain this pace of development in the future?
