Bogotá Santiago São Paulo M-cities gather problems and increase vulnerability from health issues to climate change
Overview • IAI-SGPII: UMESAM-2004 (5 cities) • Establish an international network of scientists • Provide a common and comparable methodology that can be readily applied in SA • IAI-CRNII: SAEMC-2006-2010 (+ Mexico) • Provide accurate regional emissions and climate change scenarios for SA • Establish the basis for operational chemical weather forecast for SA cities. • ISSRC-IVE Model: 2001-2006 • 6 LA cities + 7 worldwide cities
Why do we Focused on Mobile Sources? • Mobile sources represent a major fraction of the inventory - about 50% accounting for primary and secondary particulate matter. • From an exposure assessment perspective, mobile sources are more important than other sources.
RESEARCH QUESTIONS - IN BOGOTA - • What is the contribution to total emissions by the different vehicle categories of the fleet? • Which are the most efficient measures to reduce vehicle emissions in the city?

Conclusions • Reliable information regarding emissions in cities from LA as well as from other places of the developing world can now be found and used to better understand the impacts of mobile sources. • This information will serve policy makers and will eventually translate into better fleet technologies, improved traffic management, and the introduction of fuel quality regulations.
