Priority Goals In Third Grade • 1. To teach children to develop good study habits. • 2. To teach children to organize their time. • 3. To teach children to assume responsibilities academically and socially. • 4. To provide more individual attention. • 5. To place emphasis on L.A. Program. • 6. To provide an atmosphere in which learning is fun.

Homework Policy • Missing Assignment • Pink Slip is filled out by student. Parent signs pink slip. Both pink slip and assignment must be returned the following day. Student’s name is put on the board until assignment is completed. • If you forget your homework at school you can:1. Come back to school. The building is open. • 2. Call a classmate and get the assignment. • 3. Go to the Lisle Library. They have all our textbooks and workbooks in the reference section.
Report Cards Progress reports are sent home on an individual basis as needed about four to five weeks before report cards are sent. Report cards are sent home at the end of each trimester.

Ways You Can Help your Child • Read to children even after they have learned to read. Discuss the stories with them. • Give your child books as gifts. • Work together while your child finishes their homework. • Check over their assignments. • Turn everyday chores into learning experiences. (Clocks) • Check their assignment sheets daily.

What to Expect • Every night you child should be doing silent reading • Please check your child’s assignment notebook every day • Monday • Student returns homework folder empty and assignment notebook. • Spelling Pretest (also given on Tuesday if no school on Monday) • Math homework assigned. • Tuesday • Language Arts Homework • Wednesday • Math homework • Thursday • Language Arts homework • Friday • Spelling Test
Independent Reading • Student will take Accelerated Reader test to receive credit on book read • Book must be approved by teacher before test is taken • Book must be at child’s appropriate level or higher • Star Reader test given each quarter to evaluate students
