Movie SAT Vocabulary 4 James: So you’re a cadet. You’re studying. What’s your focus? Uhura: Xenolinguistics. You have no idea what that means. James: The study of alien languages, morphology,phonology, syntax. Means you’ve got a talented tongue.
Movie: Star Trek, paramount pictures, 2009 • Xenolinguisticsmeans the study of alien languages. • Morphology in the field of linguistics means the study of word forms and word relationships. • Phonologymeans the study of speech sounds of a language. • Syntaxmeans arranging words together to make well-formed sentences.
Zodiac essay • In the first paragraph, look at the description of your zodiac sign and discuss the similarities and differences between the description and your own personality. Give specific examples. • In the second paragraph, look at the chapter in Grendel that uses your zodiac sign, how does that sign apply to the chapter? Synonyms: amalgamation, composite, fusion. • Cortex translates as bark in Latin and refers, in this case, to the outer layer of the front part of the brain, so it’s like the bark of the front part of the brain.
