What is Eucharist? • The Eucharist is when the members of the church are nourished by the Body and Blood of Christ. • We receive everlasting nourishment the bread and wine that by the power of the Holy Sprit it becomes the body and blood of Christ. • We become one with Christ • In the sacrament of Eucharist all who share in the Body and Blood of Christ come to the fulfillment of hope to new freedom and new life. • This sacrament is done at the alter
How is it Celebrated? How does one prepare for the sacrament? • To prepare for the sacrament, one goes to classes to learn how to receive the communion and they learn the history and other important stuff. • Mass is where we celebrate Jesus and the Eucharist • To receive communion, you walk up to the Eucharistic minister, you bow, you say "Amen", open your hands, take the Eucharist and then put it in your mouth.
Signs, Symbols, and Rites • The bread and wine are signs of the Eucharist because in this sacrament, we receive the consecrated version of the bread and wine as the body and blood of Christ. • The tabernacle is also a sing of the Eucharist because it is what holds the body and blood of Christ. • Grace is also a symbol of the Eucharist because you must be in a state of grace when we receive communion.
Effects • We receive ever-lasting nourishment • We complete our initiation into the church and in Christ • We come to the fulfillment of hope, to new freedom and to new life • We commit ourselves to living as Christ lived, and to work for true justice and peace Image. 2012. Examples from New Testament • The last supper is probably the most obvious example from the new testament. The last supper is when Jesus announced to his apostles that he would give his life for them the next day. Also, he consecrated the bread and wine into the body and blood of Christ. • When Jesus fed the crowd of 5,000 with only a few loaves of bread and a couple fish. • Jesus said, " I am the living bread that came down from heaven; if anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever...
