Eucharist • Makes present the death and resurrection of Jesus. • We participate in this mystery as we enter the Sacrament. • Sign of the unity of the Church • Source of the unity of the Church as we become conformed to Christ. • “Source and Summit of the Christian Life”
Church • Jewish tradition of gathering together to worship God continued • House churches – small dynamic communities of love & service • Church = assembly; divinely called gathering. • Three levels of Church • Entire people of God (universal) • Local Church (diocese) • Celebration of liturgy (parish) • Church = Body of Christ • Church is deprived if one member is absent.
Church & the Eucharist • Church is the Body of Christ (St. Paul) • Eucharist is the Church gathering to give thanks & praise to God. • Eucharist makes us become more and more God’s people, temples of Holy Spirit, members of Body of Christ. • Eucharist strengthens the Church, and the Church is the true home of the Eucharist.

Ministries as Mass • Ministry – Service • Each person at Mass has a vital role in building the Body of Christ. • Bishop – sign of unity with whole Church. • Priest – makes present the offering of Jesus himself to the Father. • Deacon – primary assistance; roles. • Assembly – offer self & life to God. • Unity of Body of Christ.
