Primary customer needs for this project: • Automate the use of the existing UIT gun • Perform UIT on a minimum 2 inch square flat surface • Provide oxidation/debris removal during UIT operation • Solution should be cost effective • Automation to be more consistent, accurate and safer than when done by hand
Main Design Targets: • Automate existing handheld UIT application • Ability to treat minimum 2 inch square flat specimen area • Ability to provide an impact force to the work surface that is adjustable from 0 – 15 lbs • Adjustable feed rate in the X and Y directions • Ability to treat specimens of different thicknesses • Ability to treat various specimen shapes • Total cost less than $1000 • Combined weight less than 1500 lbs
