  7. Sign up for both subject knowledge taster workshops: • Maths • How to thrive on your PGCE • Grammar • Phonics • Certificate check During the Break

  8. Most of you will have taken the subject knowledge audits on Moodle. • If you have not done this, please make it a priority • Support is available on each of the subject knowledge areas. • Please use the summer period to revise areas you are unsure of. Subject knowledge

Programme Dates UNIVERSITY-CENTRED PGCE Start date: Monday 2nd September 2019 Expected completion dates Friday 26th June 2020 SCHOOL-CENTRED PGCE Start date: Wednesday 4th September 2019 Expected completion dates Friday 26th June 2020 You may be expected to extend this time if you have not met the Teachers’ Standards by then.

  10. University Centred School Direct Because you are not due to attend university until 11th September & if we leave enrolment until this date, this will delay you receiving your funding. To support with this, we have organised an earlier enrolment event for you on 2nd September at 13:00 in FT210 (second floor of the library). Please note that if you choose not to attend this enrolment event, your student finances will be delayed until you enrol. Please remember that you will be unable to enrol until you have met all of your conditions. Please be proactive with this. • You will enrol on the first day of your programme (2nd September 12:00 in FT210) • Once you have met all of your conditions and have enrolled onto the programme, your student finance will become available to you.   11. School Experiences: university-centred3-7 route You will need an EYFS and a Key Stage 1 placement. SE1 6 weeks Nursery or Reception Key Stage 1 SE2 6 weeks SE3 10 weeks Nursery or Reception Key Stage 1

  12. School Experiences: university-centred7-11 route You will need a Lower Key Stage 2 and an Upper Key Stage 2 placement. SE1 6 weeks Year 5 or Year 6 Year 3 or Year 4 SE2 6 weeks SE3 10 weeks Year 5 or Year 6 Year 3 or Year 4

  21. The Developing Professional How is reading for pleasure embedded into a whole school approach? What is the perceived impact of male teachers on children? How do drama techniques impact upon the development of mathematics in a Y1 group? Does art improve the quality of children’s creative narrative writing?

  22. The Developing Professional Your task before the start of your programme: Read around educational research. Refer to the core texts. Begin to focus your area of interest. Make notes. Develop your critical reading skills by accessing journal articles. Ask questions. Make notes.

  23. Learning Support Some of you may have specific learning needs that we need to be aware of to ensure we can make adaptations to your programme. To support this, you will need to engage with our learning disability team and they will be able to provide you with a learning support plan should you require one. You must be proactive in this process and ensure the team is aware of your needs.

  24. PGCE Summer School We have organised two events during the summer to support you with the academic demands of the PGCE programme and writing at M Level. You must attend one of the events. These will be held at the university and take place on 31st July & 7th August. Our learning support team will also be available on these dates to discuss any additional needs you may have.

  25. Pre-programme Training To help you prepare for your programme, you are required to take the following online training courses before you begin your training in September. Channel (Prevent Strategy) Online Training Female Genital Mutilation Online Training (you must register for this training) Links to these courses can be found from the PGCE website
