  2. Expectations English Language Art (ELA) • Form all letters of the alphabet, capital & lowercase • Be able to identify all letters of the alphabet and produce their appropriate sound • Read all 40 Kindergarten sight words

  3. Expectations English Language Art (ELA) • Blend & segment CVC words • Identify story elements (character, setting, plot, main idea) • Retell a story (beginning, middle, end) • Rhyme • Use phonetic spelling when writing words

  4. Expectations Math • Count forward from 0 to 100 • Measurement • Identifies numbers 0-100 • Counts 20 or more objects • Writes any number 0-100

  5. Expectations Math • Identify, name and draw 2D shapes & identify and name 3D shapes • Sort sets of mixed objects using various attributes • Solve and represent number stories (addition and subtraction) • Addition and Subtraction Facts to Five (1+4=5) (5-1=4) • Counts by 10s up to 100

  6. Expectations Social Studies & Science • Themes are incorporated into the ELA curricula throughout the year as per the Massachusetts Frameworks. • See our website for a monthly list!

  7. Anti-Bullying Program • The Elmwood Street School follows an Anti-Bullying Program throughout the school year. This is a program and can be found on the school website at www.millburyschools.org • If you have any questions, you can contact the office.

  8. Schedule • Classroom instruction time begins promptly at 8:50 • Reading Block is 90 minutes (includes whole group, small group skill instruction, & journals) • Math Block is 60 minutes • Handwriting Without Tears Program

  9. (schedule cont.) • Morning snack • Recess • Lunch • Rest time • 40 minute Specials ~ Art, Music, P.E., Library, Computer Class

  10. Homework • Weekly, Reading/Math • Due date is determined by individual teacher • Reflected on report card • Completed by child with support • IXL Computer Math Program (Homework Policy can be found In the Calendar/Handbook)

  11. Miscellaneous • There will be many “NA” grades on the report card this year due to the updated curriculum • Avoid vacation during the school year • Parent-Teacher Conferences in November • Volunteer Packets are in the office • CORI check • Communication • email, notes, phone calls, websites ***Individual teacher preference*** • Behavior Policy • Birthday Celebrations Policy (found in the handbook)

  12. Housekeeping • No toys, trading cards, games etc. • Label EVERYTHING/ all money should be in an envelope or a baggie • Dress in layers- temperature varies • Check & empty backpacks daily • Bring one healthy snack & drink daily • Rest mats -need to be in a bag, sent home every Friday to be washed & returned in a bag on Monday • one small stuffed animal or doll is acceptable • Spare pair of clothes in backpacks • Send a note for any transportation changes
