European-wide field trials for residential fuel cell micro-CHP
Introduction I • The ene.field project is the largest European demonstration of the latest smart energy solution for private homes, fuel cell micro-CHP • Is a Project over 5 years with 26 partners including manufacturers, utilities, research institutes and universities • It will deploy up to 1,000 residential Fuel Cell units in 12 key member states • Demonstration over 3 years in each case • Lifecycle cost assessment, barriers report, commercialisation framework
Introduction II • Funded by the partners with support from the Fuel Cells and Hydrogen Joint Undertaking (FCH JU) • Includes all of the fuel cell technology variants: • high and low temperature PEM and • intermediate and high temperature SOFC • They will be assessed in different European domestic heating markets, under a consistent assessment framework to allow a fair comparison of the technologies available for fuel cell micro-CHP.
Trials distribution – Genuine EU dimension Deploy up to 1,000 residential Fuel Cell units in 12 key member states. The deployments will occur in countries with prior experience of micro FC-CHP trials. 4
Primary Outcomes: • Real world learning – demonstration of market potential, segmentation, cost and environmental benefits of micro FC-CHP • Developed market focused-product specifications and harmonised codes and standards • A more mature supply chain, readied for deployment of micro FC-CHP in 12 Member States • An evidence base on cost and environmental performance that can be used to accelerate policy support from governments and adoption by channels to market Volume Figure - Cost, volume and risk Cost
