  2. OLYMPIC MOTTO CITIUS-ALTIUS-FORTIUS FASTER-HIGHER-STRONGER OLYMPIC CREED “The most important thing in the Olympic Games is not to win but to take part, just as the most important thing in life is not the triumph but the struggle. The essential thing is not to have conquered but to have fought well.” OLYMPIC MOTTO AND OLYMPIC CREED

  3. In 1901 the Winter Olympics were called the Nordic Games All the events in the winter Olympics have to do with ice and snow. OLYMPIC HISTORY

  5. OLYMPIC MASCOTS

  6. The three Olympic mascots are Quatchi, Miga and Sumi. Muk Muk is our “electronic” mascot. My favourite mascot is Sumi. He is part bear and part thunderbird and part killer whale. Sumi can get bigger and bigger, so he can carry a lot of things including his friends, on his back, and fly them around. Sumi has inner strength, and he is the guardian spirit. He loves skiing. I think that Sumi and I are the most alike. We both care about animals and how they are treated. We both try to learn as much about animals as we can. We read about them, and ask lots of questions. We both like to fly. He has wings to help him fly, and I would like to fly in a blimp, and fly over the Olympics, and see what is going on. He lives in B. C. He lives in the mountains, which are very close to us. OLYMPIC MASCOTS

  7. MUKMUK • Did you know cyberspace has it’s own Olympic mascot? • Mukmuk, a Vancouver Island marmot is cyberspace’s new sidekick. Don’t forget to tune in to the Olympic games for your chance to see Mukmuk. • He is friendly to other Olympic mascots. He wants to help all the sports people at the Olympics. • He dreams about having more marmot friends on Vancouver Island. There are not too many right now. They are endangered. • Mukmuk is very shy, so he likes to hide in all the pictures.

  8. The first Olympic Torch Relay was held in 1936. It represents peace, friendship and goodwill. The 2010 Torch Relay is the longest in history. The flame was lit by the sun in Greece where traveled for 8 days. It was then handed over to Canada and flown by jet to Victoria where it arrived on October 30. This was the official beginning of the 2010 Torch Relay. OLYMPIC TORCH RELAY
