Background of Foundation • Vodafone New Zealand Foundation established in 2002 as a charitable organisation to give back to the communities in which we operate • One of 16 Vodafone Foundations around the world • Funding comes from VF Group foundation and a percentage of Vodafone New Zealand profits are gifted to the foundation each year • Total funds distributed in NZ approaching $5m • Key programme has been the “World of Difference” Programme • Foundation Directors • Neil Porteous –Chair and HR Director , VFNZ • Andrea Midgen – Director , Customer Care , VFNZ • Richard Cheeseman ( VFNZ Employee) • Angie Rota ( VFNZ Employee) • Dr. Peter Watson – Adoslescent Youth Specialist Philanthropy New Zealand

Foundation Focus Mission Statement : “Empowering vulnerable NZ youth create brighter futures for themselves and their communities “ • Key programme is the world of Difference Programme which has now supported 23 Kiwis to live their “Passion of the World around us” • Previously provided substantial funding to the Royal NZ Foundation of the Blind to support their Talks technology , Spirit of Adventure trust, Project “K “ and Environschools. • Now working with the youth sector to determine the best way forward and how we can make the biggest difference using the resources that the foundation can offer Philanthropy New Zealand

Challenges of “ Serving Many Masters” • Juggling needs to various stakeholders: • Customers • VFNZ employees • Communities • Charities • NGO’s • Government • Demarcation of foundation role and business role for internal Directors of the foundation • Prioritisation of foundation matters within the Vodafone New Zealand governance process • Dealing with 2 sources of funding – Vodafone Group Foundation and VFNZ • Surety of ongoing funding form Vodafone Group foundation in an increasingly challenging market • Balance between employee representation and external expertise • Brand and Values fit with the recipient charities • Corporate reputational risk Philanthropy New Zealand
