Heroes of Estonian Fairytales.
Estonian folklore started in the 19th century. Estonian folk tales are very original, they reflect the life, rituals and beliefs of Estonian people. The main theme of fairy tales is the struggle for the better future.
The main heroes of Estonian fairy tales are the fishermen, the sailors and the peasants. They are hard working and honest and they find their happiness in spite of many obstacles.
Some heroes of Estonian Folk Tales Kalevipoeg- the son of Kalev. Pekko- Seto god of fertility and brewing Suur Tõll Great Tõll Kratt a demon Metsavaim- (Forest Spirit) Vanapagan and Kaval-Ants (sly devil and Crafty Hans)
Kalevipoeg is the main hero-giant of ancient national songs of people of Estonia. Kalevipoeg means:the son of Kalev.
Giant-farmer, warrior, who fought against the enemies of his people, lived in Saaremaa island The monument to Suur Tõll and his wife, Piret, height of 3,5 meters, on the island Kuressaare.
Kratt Kratt is a demon who stole and brought food, money and other worldly goods to its maker and owner in the form of a whirlwind or meteor-like tail of fire (also called puuk, pisuhänd, tulihänd, hännamees)
