Question Forms • How we ask questions in Sign Language • Use of N.M.F. • Use of Sign Order • Use of Referent
N.M.F. Non – Manual Features (N.M.F.) Facial Expression Movement Very important. Changes a statement into a question. E.g: Alright.
Sign Order • This is the sentence structure when asking questions. • Wh? (Who, What, When, Where, How, Why, etc.) usually comes at the end of the sentence. • 1st: Topic, Timeline, Object • 2nd: Topic, Comments • Last: Wh?, Action
Remember Referent! Point to what/who you are asking the question about. Not relevant for all questions. E.g: Generally questions relating to the weather.
Question forms BSL English • Next week weather like what? • Holiday go where? • ... • What will the weather be like next week? • Where are you going on Holiday? • How much is that Doggy in the window?
