  3. A distance learning version of Adult High School and GED programs Developed for those students whose current life situation does not allow pursuit of educational goals in a standard classroom environment Job Health Family obligations What is Literacy Online?

Program Software • Adult High School students will use A+ from American Education Corporation (technical assistance available from instructor) • GED students will use GED Integrated Online Solution from MHC (technical assistance available from both instructor and McGraw-Hill) and/or GED lessons in A+. • Follow installation guides provided w/CD (MHC) and/or on the web (A+ and MHC). • Both applications are available to user 24/7

  5. The Ideal Student • Self-motivated, focused, disciplined, persistent, and not a procrastinator • Capable of efficiently using computers / e-mail / the Internet and installing new software applications • Have a positive attitude • Reading at 9th grade or higher level

  6. Computer RequirementMinimums • Window 98 running on Pentium 1 PC with 64 MB RAM and 8X CD-ROM, 14” color monitor, & 2 GB HD space • Internet Access (broadband preferred) • Using Internet Explorer 6.0 or better • MS Word Compatible Software • Note: All software installation and operability is student’s responsibility

  7. Enrollment & TABE • Complete initial academic evaluation • Obtain an official high school transcript. (May be faxed) • Re-register each semester that you intend to continue to be enrolled • Complete registration paperwork • Complete follow-up academic evaluations at end of each semester

  9. Student Expectations • Minimum of a 9th Grade reading level required to start using TABE 9/10 D • 12 Hours online per week minimum • Progress at the rate specified in course syllabus, where applicable • Complete 2 AHS credits or pass at least one actual GED test/semester • Students needing more than 6 HS credits will be encouraged to do GED

  10. Available Assistance • E-mail assistance available at anytime • Face-to-face instructor assistance available by appointment • Classes available at all campuses to assist students who are not reading at a 9th grade minimally acceptable level • Be patient and persistent !!

  11. Testing and Grading • Adult High School examinations and actual GED testing conducted at Main • AHS minimum credit grade is 80% • GED minimum score: 410 on each test with a total of 2250 or greater
