Western Regional Storage Trust (WEST) • Goal: Develop a shared retrospective print journal repository program among research libraries in the West • Preserve the scholarly print record • Provide access to archived materials, when needed • Create opportunities to reallocate physical space Technical Services Meeting
Western Regional Storage Trust (WEST) • Volumes stored in SAL3-like space • Cleanliness, temperature & humidity control • Security (i.e., not open stacks) • “Validation” at volume level or issue level • Depending on amount of duplication and of risk (as defined by WEST) • Condition assessment for one category of risk • If needed by others: • Photocopy, scan, fax • Lending across libraries for IN-HOUSE USE Technical Services Meeting
GSB-South Building • Question: Does it make sense to relocate all programs and staff in Meyer Library to the soon-to-be vacated Business School building, GSB-South? • General fit? = yes, all of it probably can fit • More specific design and cost = study in process (due in May) • NOT A DONE DEAL. School of Ed also doing an assessment of fit • Decision in 6 months or so. The game is afoot. Technical Services Meeting
GSB-South Building • Meyer programs to fit: • East Asia Library and its collections (Meyer 4 and mezzanine) • Technical Service operations on Meyer 3 • ESP (including Systems Team) from Meyer 3 • DLSS (most of it) from Meyer 1, 2 & 3 • Academic Computing Services from Meyer 1 & 2 Technical Services Meeting
GSB-South Building • GSB – 4 (complex) floors plus basement; poor situations for elevators and loading dock • Advocating for TS - flexibility • All our operations on one floor • Close to Systems and much of DLSS (same floor) • Very open floor plan • Remove most office walls • Furniture options to anticipate future work styles • Isolate the noisier activities (restrooms, lunch room, conference rooms, etc.) Technical Services Meeting
GSB-South Building • Current state of planning • Architects met with Department Heads for overview of our objectives – workflow efficiencies, flexibility for future, synergies • TS adjacencies sketched by Tech Service heads • This Friday, architects respond with detailed adjacencies draft within the space (4th floor) • To departments to discuss • Lesser challenges than those of Academic Computing and East Asia Library Technical Services Meeting
