MISSION OF THE COMPLIANCE OFFICE • Our Mission is to provide guidance to the entire Boston College Community with regard to the rules, regulations and standards which mandate integrity and fair play in all our affairs. Above all else, we exist to promote and protect the health and well being of our student-athletes, our Department of Athletics and the Institution.
COMMITMENT TO COMPLIANCE It is every staff member’s responsibility to conduct the business of the University within the rules and regulations set forth by all associations of which Boston College is a member. • Any possible violations (or allegations of a violation) that come to the attention of anyone within the BC community should be brought to the attention of the Director of Athletics or the Associate Athletic Director for Compliance • If it is determined a violation has occurred, all pertinent information will be submitted to the ACC and /or NCAA, as appropriate. • Violations, regardless of the degree, become a matter of permanent record for the institution and are documented in the personnel file of the individual(s) involved.
RULES INTERPRETATIONS/EDUCATION Providing Rules Interpretations and Rules Education is the responsibility of the compliance Office. Applicable legislation updates and interpretations will be provided to the Boston College community. GAMBLING • No wagers of anything of material value on an NCAA-sponsored sport or the corresponding professional sport • No fantasy sports/leagues • No March Madness pools • No Super Bowl picks • No bets for your entire time of employment within the BCAD REMEMBER – BC has “ZERO” tolerance for gambling
RECRUITING Recruiting is any solicitation of a prospect or a prospect’s relatives [or legal guardian(s)] by an institutional staff member or by a representative of athletics interest (booster) for the purpose of securing the prospect’s enrollment and ultimate participation in athletics at Boston College.
EXTRA BENEFITS An extra benefit is any special arrangement by a Boston College employee or a representative of the institution's athletics interests to provide a student-athlete or the student-athlete’s relative or friend a benefit not expressly authorized by NCAA legislation. Receipt of a benefit by student-athletes or their relatives or friends is not a violation of NCAA legislation it is demonstrated that the same benefit is generally available to the institution’s students or their relatives or friends or to a particular segment of the student body (e.g., foreign students, minority students) determined on a basis unrelated to athletics ability. Examples of Impermissible Benefits: (not all inclusive) Providing your pin code for a personal call or fax; Allowing a student-athlete to use your cell phone; Loaning money to a student-athlete; Allowing a student –athlete to use your credit card to reserve something – even if they do not have a credit card and are giving you the money; Co-signing a loan, Co-signing for rent or utilities; Loaning your car to a student-athlete.
