ETE 335 Elementary Social Studies Lesson Gardner’s Multiple Intelligences Goals: Students will discover the meaning to the constitution. Students will understand the process for creating the constitution. Students will reenact the creation of the constitution. Objectives: Content/Knowledge: Students will understand the meaning of the constitution. Process/Skills: Students will perform what happened when the constitution was created. Values/Dispositions: Students will create a visual as to what the constitution means and how it affects us.
ETE 335 Elementary Social Studies Lesson Gardner’s Multiple Intelligences Rationale: Students should have a good understanding on the creation of this country. By studying the constitution and how it was created, students will be able to understand why the United States came about. It is important for students to understand how the country they live in was created. Standards: State – Illinois Common Core or Learning Standards 14.A.2 Explain the importance of fundamental concepts expressed and implied in major documents including the Declaration of Independence, the United States Constitution and the Illinois Constitution. National – NCSS Themes 6. Power, authority, governance. 10. Civic ideal and practices.
Logical/Mathematical • Students will research information regarding the constitution. Students will find at least five websites they find helpful as well as one interactive website about the constitution. Verbal/Linguistic • Students will perform a play about the creation of the constitution. The class will be slip up into two or three groups so that each person has a role in the play. Musical/Rhythmic • Students will be placed in groups of 4-5 students. Groups will find a song that relates to the constitution. Whether it is the creation of something or a patriotic song, either works. Visual/Spatial • Students will read the preamble of the constitution. Students will create a comic strip that shows the meaning of the preamble portion of the constitution.
