Wrap-Up of SC Collaboration Meeting and Code Organization • Frank will organize the overall coding effort in particular: • Continue with the collaborations with Jeff Holmes on PTC_py-ORBIT. • Continue with the collaborations with James Amundson on SYNERGIA. • Continue with the collaborations with Valery Kapin (FERMILAB) and Christoph Montag et al (BNL) on MAD-X with frozen space charge. • Present work items: • Uploading newest PTC to the py-ORBIT SVN repository. • Calculating the 5D & 6D linear Normal Form Transformation from MAD-X (collaboration Piotr Skowronski) including space charge kicks ➔ perfectly matched distributions. • Modifying the frozen space charge set-up to adapt to large dispersion in the SPS. • Elena will take care of PTC-ORBIT for the PSB: • She has contributed substantially to update PTC to deal with acceleration properly for the PSB! • Contact person to Alexander Molodozhentsev on PTC issues in PTC-ORBIT. • Will move the PSB studies to PTC_py-ORBIT. SC-41 - FS
Code Organization II • Hannes will cover various issues for SPS issues and beyond (➔ next talk). • He has shown that PTC_py-ORBIT is working for the SPS. • The unstable behavior reported for PTC-ORBIT are still there and they will be studied further. • Getting MAD-Xfrozen space charge working for SPS (➔ collaboration Frank & Everton). • Implementingfrozen space charge into PTC_py-ORBIT. • Raymond work for the PS with PIC & frozen space charge: • Trying on various platforms and at other computer facilities ➔ Italian supercomputer! • Collaboration with Ji Qiang to use the IMPACT PIC code on supercomputers. • Everton getting MAD-Xworking for the LHC. • He is improving the MAD-X set-up and helps with the SPS. Computing • Frank, Elena & Hannes have clarified the situation of PTC with the MAD-X custodian Laurent Deniau: • We at CERN are in charge of PTC now. ➔ Attempt for a single version! • PTC will be updated for PTC_py-ORBIT and uploaded to their SVN repository (see above). • Alexander will be informed and we should find an agreement between him and us on the future PTC development. • There is no real need to updatePTC-ORBIT from now on. • Frank is in discussion with IT about our future computing needs. • Short term: Improve the set-up of our 48 core cluster; They asked to wait till they have successfully move to SLC6 with one of their machines. • Long term: Can we get from CERN the required service and supercomputing needed? • We should give it a trial with the Italian option. Raymond has started. SC-41 - FS
