Meeting Wrap-Up • Observations • Summary of Action Plans • Recommendations • Next Steps • Your Reflections
Observations • Watching you wear your “Board” hat, I see the Board trying to get clarity on: • Leadership roles and responsibilities. • Clarity of reports and reporting processes. • There’s more work to be done.
Summary of Action Plans • We received a total of 42 action plans. • 16 are complete (40%). Good job! • 4 had minimal or no work done. • The rest are in various stages of completion.
Benefits of Action Planning • Helps the DLCs focus on action and what they need to get done. • Identifies areas where staff resources are needed. • Indicates which DLCs are doing fine – and which could use more help. • Connects local action to strategic plan. • Connects “local” hat to “Board” hat.
Suggestions for Improvement • Several DLCs identified specific areas where they need help: • E.g. updated lists and fliers from staff • E.g. clarity about staff assistance • E.g. clarity about the meaning of some objectives • Eliminate redundant planning exercises. • More coaching in S.M.A.R.T. action steps.
Recommendations • Staff input these plans electronically and return them to the DLCs. • DLCs keep using and updating your action plans. • Agree on one template. • Put plans online – so volunteers and staff can update and coordinate action.
Recommendations • Make this a regular habit! • Use your DLC meetings for action planning. • Use every Council meeting for action planning and sharing good ideas. • Coordinate both volunteer and staff actions. • Keep monitoring progress. • Adapt your plan as circumstances change. • Observe the results!
Coordinated Action = Powerful Results! • It starts with people assuming responsibility to get things done. • Build trust and innovation through good planning and communication. • Add good ideas + flexible adaptation.
Next Steps • November 2! • A successful Council meeting in December. • Shape the direction of the organization. • Translate your goals into measures of success. • Focus your action plans.
