  8. CLIP or LIGACLIP APPLIERS • Are used for ligating vessels in multiple specialties • Are a method of mechanical hemostasis • Surgeon preference as to whether he or she ties off vessels or clips them • Sequence would be: clip, clip, cut (metz) • Always keep clips loaded • You will have them in pairs • Cartridges are disposable and countable items • Cartridges are color coded to match the appliers • Are different companies that manufacture these • Do not attempt to load Ethicon clips onto Horizon appliers and vice versa (you wouldn’t put Ford parts on a Toyota) • May find incorporated in an instrument tray or wrapped separately in pairs • Should they not hold the clip or the tips cross over, you need to replace it • Also check tips for ensuring they do not cross over as this could damage a structure!
